ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Between 11 January and 10 March 2010, SEWAK with support of the Khadi& Village Industries Commission (KVIC) of Odisha conducted series of training at SEWAK RRC for young entrepreneurs of the district under Entrepreneurship Development Program. A total of 106 men and women entrepreneurs who had qualified for support under PMEGP received training for 15 days each in five consecutive batches.

The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) createsself-employment opportunities for educated youth by promoting subsidy-linked micro-enterprises in rural and urban areas of the country. The selected beneficiary is sanctioned a collateral-free loan in the range of five to twenty five lakh to start an enterprise in the convenience of his native environment. At the district level, the program is implemented through the District Industries Centre (DIC) and identified Banks.

The Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) prepares the youths for entrepreneurial activities by providing for his proper orientations through two week’s training on topics likesystematic approaches, costing, pricing and profit management, TAT, material management, account and book keeping, quality management, IT factors, sustainability precautions, product diversification, designing and packaging, marketing strategies, sale tax and income tax provisions and so forth. Towards the end of the session, the trainees are taken to a successful enterprise for an exposure.

In 2010-11, SEWAK, for the second year in succession conducted another series of Trainings for fresh batches of entrepreneurs. A total of 107 entrepreneurs undertook training in six batches while boarding at SEWAK Rural Resource Center. There are over 1.2 lakh youth in the present population who could be imparted with similar trainings before setting up a manufacturing or service unit of their own.
